Time Managment - Essay Example I definitely hoped that I would pick up some learning from this as I definitely did not want to waste time (that would have been truly ironic if that had happened. I was a tad bit skeptical as the seminar started, but the binder with the learning material caught my eye immediately. To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything is itself to succumb to the violence of our times. Frenzy destroys our inner capacity for peace. It destroys the fruitfulness of our work, because it kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful.1 I was slightly taken aback because this seemed highly philosophical. And more importantly, what if I took on too many projects, all of them were properly scheduled and I made sure every hour of my working day counted. As the day went on I realized that this was not just about day planners and to do lists, this was about more than that. Indeed, both day planners and task lists play an important role in time management, but it was important to find out why we wanted to use time efficiently. Indeed if we were saving time what we were saving it for. We certainly could not bank time, so what was the end result there Both managing appointments and keeping to do lists were low hanging fruits. These had to be done anyway. But the purpose of this seminar was to show that there is a lot more to time management. All activities in our life could be put in one of four quadrants. They had to be either urgent and important, urgent and not important, not urgent and important, not urgent and not important. It was not about just getting things done it was getting the things which mattered done. Things which were urgent and important , are emergencies. A good time manager would avoid having too many items in this q uadrant. Plan out the important things so that they never become emergencies. Urgent and not important, these are time consuming non critical activities , they either should be ignored or atleast be moved to the back burner. A Ringing phone for example cries for your attention but you are in the middle of an important project. Let the voicemail get it. You can pick up and call all your voicemails at one time later on. Important and not urgent is the quadrant you want all your entire to do list. No emergencies and you are working only important things. Not important and not urgent. These are items which have to be tossed. They serve no purpose at all. After this we briefly went over the POSEC method. POSEC is an acronym. PRIORITIZE-Your time and define your life by goals. ORGANIZING-Things you have to accomplish regularly to be successful. (Family and Finances) STREAMLINING-Things you may not like to do, but must do. (Work and Chores) ECONOMIZING-Things you should do or may even like to do, but they're not pressingly urgent. (Past-times and Socializing) CONTRIBUTING-By paying attention to the few remaining things that make a difference. (Social Obligations)2. It was important to learn that managing was not just about managing individual minutes or hours. It was a big picture which was trying to be put together here consisting of numerous small elements. This is especially true in universities and colleges. They are using computers in various processes. Before the evolution of computers all the details in a library used to be maintained manually. This is not advisable because maintenance and retrieval of information becomes tedious; data is not also reliable as it is hand written and some human errors might have occurred; data duplication can be occurred by repeating the same thing over and over; not more than one person can access data at the same time but in e-Library system many people can access the same data on the same time through internet; if manual record book is lost data will be completely lost. Modern computer have the capability of handling numbers of task with intelligent control over the whole process. A library is a collection of books in which it is housed. It is organized by public body, an institution or a Librarian. The library in ABE International College of Business and Accountancy is in need of a system that can detect the students by tracing the student number and their records in the library, who are returning and borrowing books to monitor the books in the library. The librarian can check if the books in the library are available or not, if the books are returned on time or  late, and can also check if a student insured penalty for not returning a book on time. Statement of the Objectives The general objective of the project proposal is to develop an (E-Library) Electronic Library System that will facilitate better library that can manage and monitor the library returning and borrowing of the books in ABE International College of Business and Accountancy. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1. Determined the methods and procedures used in borrowing and returning of books in the library of ABE International College of Business and Accountancy. 2. Determined the problems encountered in borrowing and returning of books in the library of ABE International College of Business and Accountancy. 3. Developed a Library System to solve the manual procedures of signing in Log Book, Library card, and hand searching. It would also be simply to check-in/check-out books as well. 4. Validate the usefulness and performance of the library system for ABE International College of Business and Accountancy. Significance of the Study The following entities are the beneficiary of the developed Library System of ABE International College of Business and Accountancy. It could easily access how many books and title of the books needed, it can update how many books are there in all. Based on the study of Grace(2010), The ABE Computerized library system aimed to enhance the procedures of the library, from manually operated to computerized system. The system is LAN-based that enables the Librarian to share the records of the student such as the following borrowing books, returning books, search books, and prescriptions of the librarian. The student’s person information/data may be stored upon the request of authorized librarian. The assigned librarians are the only one who can share any of the records/data of the students. The system is not capable of sharing its data from other databases. The system will be developed using the Microsoft Visual Basic 6. 0. Based on the study ofBaltonado Jr. (2010), the Library management system is a multi-user version and can take care of all the fundamental functions of a Library like borrowing books, searching for books and checking the books and purchased/order. A computer based system will allow to check if books are check out and when it will be turned in before being overdue by the borrower. It is probably faster than hand searching for books. It would also be simpler to  check-in/ check-out books as well. You could create /obtain programs that also print out a sheet of overdue books. Computerized Library System The similarity of the proposed system to the study of Philip is that the user can return and borrow books and can check the status of books. The similarity of the proposed system above is that they are accurate for checking the book, and it will lessen the time being consumed in the manual process. The only thing that makes the proposed system different to the somesystem above is that the proposed system cannot purchase or orders a book. But it has the same goal of having better access and storage to information of library.

Beowulf as an Epic Hero

An epic hero is the central figure who has superior qualities and risks personal danger to pursue a grand quest. Beowulf is a great epic hero because he performs many brave deeds such as risking his life for the greater good of society, and is significant and glorified by all people. Beowulf displays all of these heroic characteristics in many situations throughout the poem. Beowulf boasts and boasts about all of his great doings, but in the end he proves to everyone that he is as great as he claims to be. Most could say Beowulf is the perfect example of an Anglo-Saxon hero.First, Beowulf shows that he will do anything for fame, glory, and the greater good of society. He risks his life in many of his adventures in the poem to achieve these goals. An example of him risking his life for fame and society is shown whenever Beowulf decides he is going to kill the fire breathing dragon for the people. Beowulf shows his will to fight for what he desires whenever he says, â€Å"This is not your, nor is it up to any man except me to measure his strength against the monster or to prove his worth. I shall win the gold by my courage, or else mortal combat, doom of battle, will bear your lord away †(ll.682-687).Beowulf’s great courage and will to fight helps him to take down the dragon. Since Beowulf was so willing to risk his life for others, he gained much glory. People felt that all of the great deeds that he had done made him deserve glorification.Another example of Beowulf risking death to fight for people who needed his help, is whenever â€Å"In his far off home, Beowulf, Higlac’s follower and Hickman 2 the strongest of the Geats—greater and stronger than anyone ever in this world—heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out, proclaiming that he’d go to that famous king, would sail across the sea to Hrothgar, now when help was needed† (ll.109-116). In this situation, Beowulf shows he cares about the greater good of society and will be there whenever help is needed. There are many other situations throughout this epic poem, that show Beowulf’s courage to risk his life for society and fame. Beowulf was always one to volunteer for  the risky situations in life.A second heroic quality that Beowulf possesses is that he performs many brave deeds. An example of these brave deeds is whenever he boasts about killing sea monsters in the ocean. Beowulf says, â€Å"A monster seized me, drew me swiftly toward the bottom, swimming with its claws tight in my flesh. But fate let me find its heart with my sword, hack myself free; I fought that beasts last battle, left it floating lifeless in the sea† (ll.286-291). Beowulf seizing the sea monster is only one of many brave deeds that he accomplishes throughout this epic poem.Beowulf preforms many brave deeds that no normal human being would dare try. Beowulf is a strong believer in his own personal strength. Be owulf says, â€Å"My lord Higlac might think less of me if I let my sword go where my feet were afraid to, if I hid behind some broad linden shield: my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster† (ll.169-174). Beowulf shows his bravery and courage by refusing to use weapons against Grendel. In this epic poem Beowulf preforms these many brave deeds because he has so much courage. He also has so much desire to conquer any challenge that comes his way.Thirdly, Beowulf is very significant and glorified. All of the brave deeds he accomplishes, and the strength that he possesses, gains him much respect and glorification from people. After Beowulf had defeated Grendel â€Å"The old and young rejoiced, turned back from that happy pilgrimage, mounted their hard hooved horses, high-spirited stallions, and rode them slowly toward Herot again, retelling Hickman 3 Beowulf’s bravery as they jogged along† (ll.534-538).People had a great love for Beow ulf’s bravery and looked up to him. Beowulf’s accomplishments were talked about among all people. He was a hero to many people. Beowulf was respected by all â€Å"and over and over they swore that nowhere on Earth or under the spreading sky or between the seas, neither south nor north, was there a warrior worthier to rule over men† (ll.539-542). People looked up to Beowulf because he accomplished many things that they had never seen anyone do before. People glorified his name because of his bravery to stand up for them. Beowulf is very significant and glorified throughout this epic poem.In conclusion, Beowulf had all of the great qualities of an epic hero. Beowulf preformed many brave deeds, risks his life for the greater good of society, and is very significant and glorified by all people. Beowulf never had a problem with putting himself in danger for the good of others. Through all of his grand quests he did nothing but prove to others that he truly is an epic hero. Beowulf was a great Anglo-Saxon hero and is still read and taught about today.
